Sima Amid Wewetzer introduces Art Book
Local artist, Sima Amid Wewetzer, will be introducing a new art book publication on Saturday, February 9, 2013. The free event, hosted by the Marshall Lyon County Library and Marshall Area Fine Arts Council will include a book signing and painting demonstration from 11 am to 3 pm in the library community room. World Wide Art Books (WWAB) of Santa Barbara, California, has recently released its International Contemporary Masters VI that includes works by Sima Amid. A considerable number of books is sent to galleries, museums, art fans, interior designers, and art collectors throughout the USA and internationally.
Despina Tunberg, Curator of WWAB, says “In this superbly printed annual art book, we present artists of high caliber from all over the world whose work we believe to be worthy of a serious art book. The book is a large coffee-table book (371 pages) with museum quality printing in full color.”
Sima describes the process for selection: Artists apply by sending images of their artwork to WWAB. The art works are then juried and if the artist is approved are notified of selection. The jury selects then specific art pieces to be shown in the book. Six of Amid’s art images, a short biography, the website address and contact information of the artist is included in the publication.
With the selection and inclusion in this publication, the artists are also invited to present their work at an exhibition at the Southern Nevada Museum of Fine Arts in Las Vegas planned for May 11 through June 22, 2013.
Sima Amid agrees with WWAB’s comments that every artist knows how important it is to be included in juried exhibitions, festivals, books and publications. Creating a published record of art work and the opportunity to exhibit and publish one’s work for the public eye is invaluable tool for any artist.
Sima is originally from Tehran, Iran. After completing her studies at the University of Art and Design in Iran, she came to the United States in 1978 and finished her education at Macomb Illinois University. Since that time, she has concentrated on modern painting techniques. Sima's efforts to break away from common limitations of conventional approach allow her to incorporate in her work not only the decorative arts of her own technique but also to maintain the flowing quality of artistic expression. Her seemingly dissimilar innovations may lead a true Art lover to realize and embrace the creative energy awakening found in her abstract landscapes.
Sima says, “This has been a great experience to be published in such a beautiful book with the opportunity to exhibit in Las Vegas. I want to share this with the Marshall community that I love and call home.”
