SPIRIT OF THE COMMUNITY PUBLIC ART
AVERA PLAZA
RED BARON ARENA & EXPO
The City of Marshall, in partnership with the Marshall Area Fine Arts Council (MAFAC), is leading the effort to recruit and select an artist or artist team to create a sculpture and gathering place for the Avera Plaza. The plaza sits in front of the new $16 million Southwest Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission (SMASC), Red Baron Arena and Expo (RBAE), and Schwan Regional Amateur Sports Center, currently under construction. This project is intended to attract more arts development along a proposed walking path leading to the Camden Trail development.
The Spirit of the Community Sculpture Committee is comprised of arts professionals, city officials, and MAFAC members. The Committee has reviewed all applications and selected three finalists. Those finalists were interviewed by the Committee. The next step is to pick the artist that best represents the Committee's vision for the Avera Plaza.
The Committee encourages the community to review the three artists' presentations and give their feedback.Check out the three artists below. At the bottom is a survey to give your feedback. The deadline for giving your feedback is noon on Wednesday, June 1, 2016.
